NAVIGON North America App Reviews

Doesnt plot correct route

I have no idea how this company stays in business. After putting in four destinations, my iPhone 6 Plus app just left off the first destination. I tried to get it to display the whole route but then it only displayed the first destination and not the other 3. Whats up with that. I stopped using this app over a year ago because every time I wanted to use it, it wanted to re-download the maps. Something it would not do over LTE data network. So useless. Well I tried it again today to plan a road trip, and, still useless. Back to Google maps.

App gets worse and worse.

This was my favorite navigation app. Not anymore! Lots of bugs, wrong directions, missing turn by turn list. Lost all of my favorites after update. When trying to restore from e-mail backup it loads the list and then immediately clears everything out when iCloud is enabled. When I disable iCloud “My Destination” lists stays there until I close the app. After reopening the app my favorite places are completely gone.

Freezes a lot!

Has lots of bugs. Please fix them! :) I have to restart the navigation to see a movement.

Pop-ups are dangerous

When I want to drive, I want the map I purchased from these guys not a pop-up for a sale. Im taking my hands off the wheel. I deleted the app when I got to a stop.

The best by far!

Update: The recent update solves it all in one fell swoop!! Now a true 5 star app. Two small issues: the auto zoom does not happen at all turn sections and the step in the beginning of a route to choose between "Public Transportation", "Vehicle" and sometimes "Pedestrian" (when nearby), is one step too many. There is a option to choose Pedestrian mode and maybe there should be one for Public Transportation as well. This should be available as options and one should be choosable as the default. OLD POST: This app takes a little while to figure out but then it is fantastic. It is expensive but given the money I have spent on other GPS apps and map updates, it would not have been so bad if I had bought this first. The auto zoom feature is extremely helpful and the re-routing is fast. All maps can be pre-loaded and while this uses a lot of memory, you can choose which ones to download which helps a lot. No more getting lost when out of cell range / saves bandwidth when using wi-fi for downloads. I can go on and on about the good features... One pain though; Im not sure about other areas yet, but when in the Portland and Seattle areas, it would always use the "North" description for freeways - such as "Turn onto I-5 NORTH towards Portland" even when you are North of the city and it should be "I-5 SOUTH". This happens all the time and is quite annoying! All in all - a really good tool!

Used to be great, now meh...

Navigon used to be my go-to app for driving. I use Navigon North America, Europe, and Middle East and have enjoyed it; but now it is really just an old app with little innovation. Garmin does seem to have done anything since they acquired it. Ive come across many routing errors or poor routing choices; and these seem to be getting worse. The interface has had zero improvements in years and is cumbersome to add interim destinations. I think a company like Garmin, which is one of the best navigation companies in the world, could do much better.

App name changes to Europe and crashes.

My navigon NA is no longer labeled "North America" but changes its name to "Europe" upon completion of installation. The app also becomes unusable after the undesirable name change. Please issue a new release.

New Layout Good and Bad

The new layout has some improvements, but I greatly dislike instantly displaying the map of where I am on the main screen, without the convenient button choices that used to be available. Please allow the option to remove the new Work Button -- those of us who are retired, or cant find work, dont need the reminder taking space. And, every time I tap the new Suitcase Button it harasses me asking me to enter my Work address. I dont have a work address! Do I enter a fake one to stop this untested irritation?

You fixed it! But....

Latest release fixed turn-by-turn not loading (or loading super slow). Thank you. However two nits..... 1- does the new version support Garmin HUD? 2- why does your support website only come up in German? Ive been a user since the first release on my 3GS... When are you going to adequately support US users?

Crashes immediately when launched

Havent been able to use this version as it crashes upon launch.

Needs work

This app will always get you there. Google maps will always beat it. Something stupid has happened to their route optimization routines. Can show it a faster route, shorter route by putting in an intermediate destination (all highways). When you remove the stop, it will go back to the longer, slower route. Duh!!!

Not Happy With Update

This latest update has removed access to all my bookmarked addresses and return to home function. Google maps is now better than this and it is free.

Free Trial

I do not like this app. There is nothing intuitive about it. How do I get a refund?

Bad VoiceOver Support

Accessibility has taken a huge step backwards with this update. When using this app with VoiceOver, several of the interface buttons speak the word "icon" before the button text. In addition, the button titles seem less intuitive than before. For example, the main screen of the app contains a button that VoiceOver reads as "icon adress search home button". Bonus points for anyone reading this who noticed the misspelling of address as "adress" but thats how the text appears to VoiceOver when reading character by character. The DirectHelp screen now reports the GPS coordinates of the current location in decimal units rather than in degrees, minutes, and seconds, with no apparent way of switching from one to the other. While a route is in progress, the DirectHelp screen doesnt always correctly report cross streets as you approach and pass them. Instead of reading the name of the exit, the app read the name of the city containing the exit instead. Previous versions of this app were more accurate when reading street names. I am very disappointed with this update. Until now, this has been a rock solid app for seven years. That has changed significantly with this update.

Not Happy

I have been using this app since it first was available. And every update seemed to make it better. Except this one. The main reason I used this app was how quickly I can take a contact and set up a route. That feature seems to have gone away. Or I just cant figure out this more intuitive UI. I have searched all over and cannot figure it out. Please fix this as soon as possible.

Improved layout

Update Sep-1-2016:The 1-tap Work setting which I was ecited about is broken. EVERY time I tap the suitcase button the app asks if I want to enter a Work address. I tap yes, enter the address, get to the screen with a checkmark, tap the checkmark and it begins navigating. But for some reason the address is not saves, and the next time I tap the suitcase it asks me again. I also tap No and then try entering the address via "Take me to work". The app doesnt remember the address using that sequence, either. Another gripe is that the Suitacase button requires too much precision when tapping. I usually have to try 3 or 4 times. The icon is sufficiently sized (although small) but it seems like they only have 4 pixels wired fro response. Ive encountered a few more unexpected wonky routes. Downgrading from 4 stars to 3. Original Aug-11-2016: Just got my hands on version 2.16.0. Will need to use it regularly for awhile to decide whether the new interface is easier and more convenient. It certainly ~feels~ more logically laid out and organized in accord with good iOS app practices. The hamburger menu button is more intuitive. Dont have much to say yet about address entry and search. If nothing else, though, it was worth updating simply to get a Work destination button. Ive always enjoyed the 1-step convenience of the Home button, and wondered why has it taken more than 6 years for a dedicated Work button to appear -- finally! One thing I still hope for with every release but is again missing in this one: when I save a Favorite destination and later tap it to go there, why does Navigon insist upon asking me if I want to walk or drive, followed by the destination pre-map, then with Start navigation screen. For crying out loud -- its a FAVORITE! Just load it and execute immediately the same as with Home (and now Work). Please at least give us the option in Settings to skip the tedium upon choosing a Favorite. This is my go-to navigation app, and Im glad its still getting attention. Still room for improvement, though.

Theres a bug

When I have this giving directions over Bluetooth after every driving command it says "call ended". When this happened in my car the cars screen would show that I was on a call. Then later when I was in a work truck using a earpiece it did the same thing. When I turned off Bluetooth it gave directions normally. Then when I turned on Bluetooth it would always end every direction command like it was on a phone call and say "call ended". I Googled this problem and others reported the same problem. They said it started after a update. Other GPS apps dont have this problem.

FINALLY !!

Now with the newest update Turn by Turn works I like the app - it works well most of the time. I like that you can download what Maps you need, states in the U. S. and provinces in Canada to your phone so you dont need Internet to use it when youre traveling. It works well for me because I have limited data

Watch interface FAIL

The Apple Watch is a big FAIL. Each time I have used the feature, it will offer the first and second turns, then directions no longer work on the watch. Navigon support (via Facebook

I keep trying!

Been using it for years! I keep trying. Unfortunately, it just isnt dependable. In Austin, TX yesterday and twice the audio confused lefts and rights. I like the visual and speed warning and use it for long distances, but not confident when in a hurry.
